Resident Evil Village’s third-person mode is still trying to hide Ethan’s face

The new RE Village demo allows you to test out the view for yourself.

Ethan Winters, the hero of Resident Evil 7 biohazard and Resident Evil Village, has always been camera shy. Capcom has purposefully disguised the character’s face in both games, and will continue to do so in Village’s impending third-person viewpoint option, which will be available next week.

Players will be able to play Resident Evil Village’s Winters Expansion in first-person with an over-the-shoulder third-person perspective. During Capcom’s Resident Evil Showcase on Thursday, game director Kento Kinoshita said that the expansion — which comes included with the core game in the Resident Evil Village Gold Edition — is the ideal excuse to return to Village. But don’t walk in expecting to get a good look at Ethan. According to Kinoshita, “even in third-person view, if you swivel the camera to see his face, Ethan will look away.”

(A time-limited demo accessible on all current platforms allows players to experience Resident Evil Village’s third-person viewpoint right now. It has a runtime of 60 minutes.)

Players, on the other hand, will have no trouble spotting Rose Winters, Ethan’s grown-up daughter and the other star of the Winters’ Expansion. She’s returning to the game’s titular hamlet in order to discover more about her background and rid herself of unwelcome magical abilities. Rose’s narrative, Shadows of Rose, will be set in the “Realm of Consciousness,” according to Kinoshita, and players may anticipate things to grow strange.

Capcom’s Resident Evil Showcase provided a sneak glance at the game’s off-the-rails creepy gameplay, indicating that lovers of huge dolls and clowns should avoid Shadows of Rose.

The Resident Evil Village Gold Edition and Winters’ Expansion will be available on October 28 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. In addition to the new Shadows of Rose chapter and third-person mode, gamers will get improvements to The Mercenaries mode, which will include playable versions of Chris Redfield, Lady Alcina Dimitrescu, and Karl Heisenberg. Residents of Resident Evil Village will also have access to a new multiplayer mode, Resident Evil RE:Verse.

Resident Evil Village will also be available for Mac and Nintendo Switch (in cloud mode) on October 28.
